Understanding the Need for Psychosocial Support
Trauma, loss, and social exclusion are common experiences among vulnerable groups in the Mt. Elgon Region. Orphans, people living with HIV/AIDS, and survivors of violence often face emotional and psychological challenges that hinder their ability to thrive. Socially Organized Educative Team (SOET) recognizes the importance of holistic healing and integrates psychosocial support into all its programs.
Counseling Services for Individuals and Families
SOET offers professional counseling services to individuals and families affected by trauma, grief, and chronic stress. Trained counselors and social workers provide a safe space for beneficiaries to express their feelings, develop coping mechanisms, and rebuild their confidence. Visit our psychosocial support page for more details.
Peer Support and Community Groups
Peer support groups play a crucial role in reducing isolation and building networks of solidarity among vulnerable populations. SOET facilitates regular group sessions where participants share experiences, exchange advice, and offer mutual encouragement. These groups are particularly beneficial for people living with HIV/AIDS, single mothers, and youth.
Empowering Children and Youth
Children and youth are especially susceptible to psychological distress. SOET’s child protection programs provide psychosocial support through play therapy, mentorship, and recreational activities. These interventions help children develop resilience, improve self-esteem, and regain a sense of normalcy. Learn more about care and child protection.
Addressing Stigma and Discrimination
Stigma remains a significant barrier to accessing psychosocial support. SOET conducts community sensitization campaigns to challenge harmful stereotypes and promote acceptance of vulnerable groups. By fostering a supportive community culture, SOET ensures that all individuals feel valued and included.
